Research degrees

The Faculty of Visiting Professors and Visiting Research Fellows at the St Mary’s Centre and Glyndŵr University is developing a programme of MPhil and PhD studies in Practical and Empirical Theology and in Religious Education. The programme is ideally suited for teachers and clergy who wish to shape part-time study in these fields within the supportive context of the St Mary’s Centre. Current projects include empirical studies of:

  • Leadership in Black-majority Pentecostal churches.
  • Experiences of retired clergy.
  • New age beliefs among young people.
  • The ministry of all God’s people.

Opportunities are also becoming available for full-time study. In January 2010 Ms Gemma Penny was appointed to the first full-time studentship, where she will be contributing to the Teenage Religion and Values Project.  In May 2010 Mr Owen Edwards was appointed to the second full-time studentship, where he will be contributing to research in Cathedral Studies.
