BA in Theology for Discipleship and Ministry

Aim
This BA has been designed in collaboration with the Diocese of Bangor and the St Seriol Centre;
  • to support the vocation of Christian disciples who wish to develop and test their faith
  • to equip the vocations for a range of authorised ministries both lay and ordained
Method
This BA is delivered through Local Education Groups that meet ten times each term at locations across the Diocese of Bangor. One module is studies each term. Participants are supported by a Local Education Group Facilitator and by a termly Saturday school.

Material
Each module is resourced by a core textbook, a module handbook and recommended study materials.

Assessment
Each module is assessed by three pieces of work:
  • TWO 750-word reflections on the work prepared for two of the local education group meetings;
  • 1500-word essay to test the learning outcomes of the module;
  • 1500-word applied reflection on the application of the module for discipleship and ministry.
Structure
Six modules are taken over two years for the Certificate of Higher Education, currently these modules are:

  • Encountering God’s World          
  • Call and Vocation
  • Beginning the Old Testament
  • Mission and Service
  • The Church and Other Faiths
Six further modules are taken over two years for the Diploma of Higher Education. Currently these modules are:
  • Jesus and the Gospels
  • God as Trinity
  • Pastoral Practice
  • Paul for today (Galatians)
  • Worship
  • Christian Ethics
Six further modules are taken over two years for the BA, selected from:
  • Understanding the Church
  • The Bible Today
  • Worship through the Christian Year
  • Practical Theology for Today
  • Ministry and the Church
  • Church and Society
  • Dissertation
